Harcourts is Home to NZ’s Top Auctioneers

Our very own Mark McGoldrick was crowned REINZ 2017 National Real Estate Auctioneering Champion Runner-Up with Ned Allison, from Harcourts Grenadier, taking out the top spot.

This result comes after two days of intense competition held at Auckland’s Alexandra Park Function Centre, where 21 competitors in the senior heats were part of this annual competition.

Auction competitions involve a simulated auction, where competitors are thrown the most difficult bidding sequence imaginable and complicated legal questions. They are required to call their auction with wit, charm and confidence whilst keeping under a strict time limit.

It’s unlike any real-life auction you will ever go to, with every element designed to test the knowledge, skill and cool-headedness of the auctioneers.

The idea is, if you are prepared for an auction competition, you are more than prepared for the toughest auction you will ever face.

Harcourts CEO Chris Kennedy says auctions can be unpredictable, but they tend to get the vendor the best price the market is prepared to pay.

“That is why Harcourts places huge importance on auctions as a marketing choice for clients. It is also the reason why the Harcourts group trains, mentors and is home to the best auctioneers in the business.”

Both Ned and Mark will go on to represent New Zealand at the Australasian Auctioneering Championships held in Adelaide in September.
