Stewart Island Fire Sale

A recent fire at a Stewart Island residence has resulted in a literal “fire sale”.

Harcourts Holmwood agent Gail Hudson had planned on a pleasant two-day holiday at her vendor’s Stewart Island property. Waking up at 4am to a fire alarm and seeing black smoke billowing outside was not part of the plan. “The living room was full of smoke, and we were lucky to get out,” she says. What caused the fire is at this stage unknown.
This property has been hailed as one of the most eco-friendly homes in all of New Zealand. The present owners have invested a vast sum of money into making the house energy efficient, with top Germany technology deployed. It even runs independently of the national grid.
Despite the recent fire damage, the owners still plan to sell their home. “This is truly a fantastic opportunity to purchase at a reduced price,” says Hudson. While fire did damage the lounge, “a significant amount of the home is undamaged. It’s a great site, and is still a beautiful home with a fabulous feel to it.”
